Best Massage Guns Reviewed

Best Massage Guns ReviewedMassage guns have skyrocketed in popularity over the last year or so, quickly becoming the most coveted fitness gadget out there.

Essentially, these devices use something called percussive therapy to deliver rapid pulses of force to your muscles. In doing so, it’s believed that this helps to relax the muscle, undo knots, and increase blood flow in the area.

As a result, the best massage guns are highly useful for treating muscle soreness, recovering from injuries, and preparing for workouts.

As you can imagine, there are loads of different massage guns out there, all claiming to be the best. However, many of these products are very low-quality, and they barely work.

The typical problem is that they don’t so much use percussive therapy as they do vibration therapy. These are two completely different things, with percussive therapy being essential to really get deep into a muscle and undo any knots.

Basically, you can end up spending a few hundred dollars on a massage gun that fails at its primary function!

Not only that, but low-quality massage guns have been known to damage your body. Some of them think that delivering a high ppm is all that matters, but this ends up putting too much force on the muscle, making them bruise. This is why getting a reputable and trustworthy massage gun is essential to maximize the benefits you see from it.

The best massage gun devices will let you relieve post-workout soreness, relieve chronic tension in your muscles, and help you feel more relaxed.

With that in mind, you can now take a look at the current top five massage guns money can buy right now:

Best Massage Gun

1. Theragun PRO 4th Generation Massage Gun

Theragun PRO 4th Generation Massage Gun Review

Theragun PRO 4th Generation Massage Gun

As the name suggests, the Theragun PRO is designed for professional use but can be bought by regular consumers. It’s the most expensive product in the Theragun range, which is widely seen as the pioneering company in the massage gun industry. As the top-of-the-line model, the Theragun PRO comes with a wealth of features that should put it on your radar.

To start, it boasts a highly customizable speed range of between 1750-2400 PPMs, letting you adjust the intensity for the more sensitive areas of your body. You can control it via the device itself, or with the Therabody app on your phone. It’s also worth noting that the app can let you choose specific workouts that guide you through the massage process, letting you target particular muscles due to certain issues. For instance, there’s a tech neck workout that helps you loosen all the tight muscles from sitting at a desk all day!

It has a very comfortable grip that can be held in numerous different ways to reach all parts of your body. This is coupled with a rotating arm – which is unique to the PRO in the Theragun range. You barely hear a thing when it’s on full power, thanks to the impressive QX150 Motor keeping things quiet. There are five attachments in the box with the product, and you can buy more on the Theragun website as well. Each attachment has a different impact level, meaning it can be used to treat different issues. Theragun also custom-makes its own attachments, while most other brands use the same ones. It also has two rechargeable batteries that last 300 minutes each, meaning you can switch them out conveniently when one runs out.

Overall, it has all the features you could want from a massage gun. The only drawback is that it’s by far and away one of the most expensive items out there. Unless you’re serious about workout recovery or easing muscle soreness, this might not be the product for you.

2. Legiral Le3 Massage Gun

Legiral Le3 Massage Gun Review

Legiral Le3 Massage Gun

If the Theragun PRO is too far out of your budget, the Legiral Le3 could be right up your street. It’s definitely a budget option, but this hasn’t stopped it from wowing thousands of customers. There’s an outrageous 20 adjustable speed levels for optimum comfort, and this is thanks to the 24V brushless motor. Aside from giving you so many speed settings to choose from, the motor also remains as quiet as possible, maxing out at around 55dB on the highest speed setting.

The device has a very simple and ergonomic design, fitting in your hand with ease. It’s also very lightweight and portable, which is perhaps not something you can say about the previous product. The manufacturers claim it provides a 16 mm amplitude depth, which basically refers to how deep into the muscle the percussive therapy goes. This is one of the best around, ensuring you get deep into your muscles when trying to recover. Speaking of which, you can do this with any of the 6 attachments provided. These 6 attachments are pretty much seen as the standard across most massage guns: a dampener, sphere, bullet, y-shaped one for the spine, trigger point, and a flat-headed option.

All of this can be packed away inside a nifty carry-case, and it’s available for a very affordable price. If there’s one criticism some customers have, it’s that the device is hard to hold when trying to get difficult muscles – like your mid-back or shoulders. But, with the help of a friend, this won’t be a problem.

3. Hypervolt PRO w/ Bluetooth Massage Gun

Hypervolt PRO w/ Bluetooth Massage Gun Review

Hypervolt PRO w/ Bluetooth Massage Gun

If Theragun is the most well-known name in this industry, then Hypervolt is a close second. They’re seen by many as the main competitor for Theragun and the Hypervolt Plus is the pick of their options. It’s 30% more powerful than the original Hypervolt, giving you up to 3200 PPM across three different speed settings.

Despite the impressive power stats, it’s the quietness that stands out as the USP here. The Hypervolt Plus is seen by many experts as the quietest high-performance massage gun out there. Usually, if you want a quiet massage device, you have to sacrifice the power. The incredible brushless high-torque motor has managed to find the perfect balance between the two. This gun is one of the few where you can enjoy a recovery session without having to deal with a lot of noise.

Speaking of recovery sessions, they can be up to 3 hours long and your device will still be running! The 24V battery is responsible for this, and it can be recharged pretty quickly. You get five attachments in the box to play around with as well, all of which can be packed away inside a nifty carry case. One other thing to note is that the Hypervolt is TSA approved to carry onto flights, which is a lovely little bonus.

It has Bluetooth connectivity to the Hyperice App, which lets you select recovery routines and go through custom workouts. This is another premium device, so the price tag may put some of you off. Also, it has the same issue with the handle design making it hard to get the inconvenient muscles in your body.

4. Urikar Pro 3 Massage Gun

Urikar Pro 3 Massage Gun Review

Urikar Pro 3 Massage Gun

The Urikar is a product that lots of people like as it falls nicely into the middle category of massage guns. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s far from being in the expensive category. This nice middle-ground doesn’t mean you get a bland device – it comes with some very unique features that we really enjoy.

Firstly, it has a 360-degree rotating grip, which is perfect as you can twist it depending on what body parts you’re targetting. Urikar has said that you can cover 95% of the body yourself, so that’s good to know! There’s also a really big and bold HD touch display, so you can select the speed setting, but also set a timer. This isn’t something we’ve seen in many other devices, with an app usually required to set any custom timers on the device. Effectively, you can choose a time limit, and the gun will go for that period, turning off when it reaches 0.

Alongside this, it has built-in noise reduction to keep it at no louder than 42dB. The Urikar Pro 3 also has an impressive 30 speed settings, all of which can provide a 14 mm depth, getting deep into the muscle tissues. You can use it for up to 600 minutes, giving it one of the best battery life’s out there.

The only thing you can possibly criticize about this device is that it doesn’t offer as good an amplitude depth as some of the other options. Also, while the rotating handle is an excellent feature, it makes the design look a bit funky.

5. TaoTronics Portable Deep Tissue Percussion Massage Gun

TaoTronics Portable Deep Tissue Percussion Massage Gun Review

TaoTronics Portable Deep Tissue Percussion Massage Gun

The last product to consider is this option by TaoTronics. Immediately, there’s something to love about this massage gun, and it’s that it only weighs 1.6 lbs. This makes it one of the lightest devices on the market, which is ideal if you need something to treat sore muscles. There’s nothing worse than using a massage gun, then getting a sore wrist/forearm because it’s too heavy!

Furthermore, we really enjoy how quiet this device is, hitting a maximum volume of 35 dB. You’ll only reach this if you use the highest speed setting, of which there are 20. Now, what TaoTronics has done well is they’ve assigned different functions for certain speed ranges. 1-5 awakens muscles, 6-10 releases fascia, 11-15 gives a deep massage, and 16-20 is called ‘professional mode.’ So, it’s nice that you can pick and choose depending on what your aims are for the day.

There’s a silicone anti-slip handle that fits well in your hands and a 10-hour working time that definitely shouldn’t be scoffed at. Once more, the only complaints are similar to those we’ve seen on devices that are designed like this – they’re hard to reach tricky muscle groups!

Top Massage Gun Features To Consider

All of the options above will suit you well, and they all share a series of similar characteristics. When choosing your device, it’s important to look at the following features:

PPM

This basically refers to the speed, and it stands for percussions per minute. Effectively, how many times the head of the device hits your body while you use it. Having a high PPM is generally better as it means you can drive more force into the muscles, enjoying a more relaxing effect. However, the key is that it has a customizable PPM, where you can select the speed based on your needs.

Weight

You want a massage gun to be lightweight or it is too hard for you to use. Ideally, you should be able to hold it one-handed without getting tired after a few minutes. If you start to cramp up, it shows the massage gun is far too heavy for you.

Noise

Yes, massage guns can be noisy – but it’s to be expected when you have a powerful motor inside of them. Realistically, you want your device to be as silent as possible, which is reflected in the noise rating in decibels (dB). For context, some of the quietest massage guns only give off a slight whirring sound, while the noisy ones are as loud as a power drill.

Interchangeable heads

Massage guns should come with different attachments for the head of the device. This is essential if you want to see the benefits of your massage gun. Sometimes, you have issues that demand specific attachments to target them. For example, people with intense muscle knots will get more joy out of using a cone or bullet-shaped head as it provides more force and precision. If you simply want to waken up and loosen a muscle, then a dampener head is the best for this – and so on.

It’s very important to make a good decision when buying a massage gun, as the wrong one won’t help with your muscle soreness or workout recovery. When you get your hands on the perfect device, you’ll recover faster, see fewer muscle knots, and have an easy way to warm up your muscles before a workout.
